About Woodcutting
The main purpose of Woodcutting is resource gathering where you use hatchets to chop down trees. This is mostly done to gather logs for Fletching, Construction, Firemaking, and profit. Basic trees excluded, you can get multiple logs before a tree is cut down leaving behind a stump. After a while, the tree will grow back and you can cut it again.
Types of Trees
Basic Trees: Level 1 - Non Members
Across runescape you will find trees that give plain logs. These trees differ in name, size, and shape. Their logs don’t sell for much, but it’s the only option for lower level woodcutters. Unlike the other trees, basic trees only give one log before falling down, this makes them an unpopular choice for woodcutting training.
Oak Tree: Level 15 – Non Members
Not as common as basic trees but still fairly common. These are a much better choice for training because they have multiple logs per tree.
Willow Tree: Level 30 – Non Members
Common around water, willow trees are fast experience for both members and non members. However they are very popular and therefore aren’t the best money making option.
Teak Tree: Level 35 - Members
Teak trees are very uncommon, their logs are used primarily for Construction.
Maple Tree: Level 45 – Members
Maple trees provide good experience for members and are less crowded than willows. Their main location is North of Seer’s Village.
Hollow Tree: Level 45 - Members
Found in Mort Myre Swamp these tree’s give hollow bark which is used to make split bark armor.
Mahogany Tree: Level 50 - Members
Mahogany trees are very uncommon, their logs are used primarily for Construction.
Arctic Pine Tree: Level 54 – Members
Found only on Neitiznot.
Eucalyptus Tree: Level 58 – Members
Found right next to Oo’glog.
Yew Trees: Level 60 – Non Members
Yew trees are the highest level nonmember tree. They are not very common and therefore are always crowded.
Magic Trees: Level 75 – Members
The highest level tree in runescape so far, magic trees sell well but there are not many to be found.
Achey Trees: Members
Hatchets
The better the hatchet the faster you cut so always use the best one you have. Though you can use a hatchet when you have the required Woodcutting level you will have to keep it in your inventory if you don't have the Attack level required to wield it.
Tai Bwo Wannai Cleanup
You can pay 100 trading sticks to get access to a dozen or so Teak and Mahogany trees. You have to pay every time you enter the area.
You get trading sticks by playing the mini games: Tai Bwo Wannai cleanup which uses your woodcutting skills with a machete to repair the fence around Tai Bwo Wannai.
Farming
You can plant woodcutting trees in tree plots, and then you have your own private tree to cut as much as you want. You can get tree seeds from bird’s nests while cutting or you can buy them from other people. Here are the trees and farming level required.
Acorn (Oak): 15
Willow Seed: 30
Maple Seed: 45
Yew Seed: 60
Magic Seed: 75
Summoning
You can summon a Beaver at 33 summoning which will give you an invisible woodcutting boost of 2 levels and randomly collect logs and planks. You can use a multichop scroll to have it cut up to 3 logs from a nearby tree. It also works as a knife for fletching.
Canoes
By cutting a canoe tree you can create 4 different types of canoes to travel along the Lum River. The better the canoe, the farther you can travel in one trip. There is no advantage to using a lower level canoe, so always use the best one you can to earn the most experience. The waka is also the only canoe which can reach the wilderness location. Every time you complete a journey your canoe will sink, so you will always need to make a new one.
Types of canoes:
Name | Level | Experience |
Log | 12 | 30 |
Dugout | 27 | 60 |
Stable Dugout | 42 | 90 |
Waka | 57 | 150 |
